Oman International Hospital successfully performed pediatric cornea transplant
Oman International Hospital successfully performed pediatric cornea transplant.
A multidisciplinary medical team, led by Dr. Ahmed Al-Maskari, senior consultant cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon at Oman International Hospital, used the latest model of the Femtosecond laser Femto LDV (manufactured by Swiss company Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems) to ensure a safe and efficient procedure on the 4-year-old boy.
This surgery demonstrates the commitment of the IGHS and its partners in providing excellence and quality of healthcare services with a combination of the most advanced technology and highly qualified doctors.
This surgical intervention, performed at the OIH Vision Centre, not only reduces the risks and complications associated with traditional, invasive forms of cornea transplantation but also allows a more comfortable and faster patient recovery.
The cornea is the transparent part of the eye that covers the front portion of the eye and acts as its outermost lens. Injury, infection and certain eye diseases can cause corneal opacities and lead to diminished vision. Since there is no replacement for this tissue, transplantation depends exclusively on the donor.
